ISTD 2025-26 'Power' Submission
My submission to the (ISTD) International Society of Typographic Designers 2025-26 'Power' brief
For one of my University modules I applied to and submitted a response to the 2025-26 'Power' brief with ISTD. My initial interpretation was to make a project based on something that isn't outwardly "powerful" but is a topic that instead needs something to "demonstrate" that power.
My decision was to do a publication based on mathematics and data, a topic that is outwrdly quite boring at times, but has so much power that, in many ways, our lives and society is built upon and reliant on it.
For the publication proposal, I specifically honed in on the power of "dimensionality", where mathematics and data use higher dimensions to calculate and process information. This subject informed the typographic treatment from then on.
The Outcome
The major turning point for this project was the introduction of 3D typography, a niche style that I had long wished to explore. I experimented with many ways of producing precise and controllable type in both perspective and isometric view, and eventually settled on a simple isometric grid.
My final proposal submission included a 26 page initial publication issue on dimensionality, a 38 page specification adn visual identity document, along with months of research and development
